Cathedral 48, Lincoln 0

The Cathedral Catholic defense led the way with another suffocating performance, as the Dons cruised to a 48-0 win over visiting Lincoln.

The Hornets had averaged over 31 points a game in the three-game winning streak that they brought into the matchup, but couldn’t find any room to operate against the Dons.

Lincoln’s best chance came on a 13-play drive at the end of the first half. On fourth-and-goal from the seven, Donell Pleasant took a direct snap down to the one-yard line — but was kept out of the endzone by Evan Fitzgerald.

Cathedral’s offense found the most success on the ground. Andrew Cowell opened the scoring with an eight-yard touchdown run, and Adam Eastwood added a 31-yard score for a 14-0 first-quarter lead.

Hogan Irwin capped off Cathedral’s opening drive of the second-quarter with a three-yard plunge. And on the next possession, the Dons’ defense joined the scoring as well. Choyce Bostian intercepted the Hornets’ Roman Martinez and returned it 20 yards for a pick-six, as Cathedral entered the half up 28-0.

Next week, Lincoln travels to 3-4 Scripps Ranch. Cathedral pays a visit to St. Augustine, in a matchup that will likely serve as the de facto Eastern League championship.
