Jersey Mike’s City Game of the Week: Cathedral Catholic Dons 26, Mira Mesa Marauders 16

Cathedral’s tough defensive start stopped Mira Mesa in its tracks. Cathedral Catholic Dons won 26-16 against Mira Mesa Marauders.

Starting off in the third drive of the game, the Cathedral Dons intercepted the Marauders pass. The Player of the Game, Matt Surprenant, had the interception and scored a 28 yd touchdown for the first score of the game. In the second quarter, the Dons CB Colin Myers intercepted another Marauders pass as RB Ryan Kilpatrick ends up scoring a TD on the end of that drive ending the half 14-0. The Marauders fought back in the 3rd quarter when QB Noah Tumblin flips into the end zone and scores a 7 yard TD. Unfortunately, the Marauders spark was not enough to handle the Dons offensive and defensive pressure. The Dons were victorious making the final score 26-16.

Although the Marauders have been playing great all season, the fast paced offense of the Dons was initially what hurt them. In addition, the Dons had 6 sacs for the game and a couple of fumbles. With that kind of defensive pressure, the Marauders did not have enough time to recover. The Mira Mesa Marauders are now 5-3 and will continue on to play St. Augustine next week. Cathedral Catholic Dons are now 4-4 and will face off with Point Loma.

Preview: Mira Mesa Marauders will face off with Cathedral Catholic Dons at the Marauders home at 7 pm. The 3-4 Cathedral Dons are looking for another statement win as they defeated Scripps Ranch 62-7 last week. The 5-2 Mira Mesa Marauders are looking for redemption as they lost to Point Loma 35-6 last week. Both teams have proven that they can pull out tough victories therefore should be a great matchup going into Fridays game.

The Dons are led by 22nd-year head coach Sean Doyle and average 23.4 points per game. The Dons junior running back Ryan Kilpatrick helped lead the Dons to victory last week as he had 5 TDs, 15 carries, and 236 yards on the night. With the help of QB Kai Brown passing to Kilpatrick, the Dons set forth a statement 62-7 win. Not to mention the strength of the defensive end which include linebacker Jake Lynch and cornerback Colin Myers.

Having a solid 5-2 record, the Marauders will be hungry to get their 6th win of the season. The Marauders are led by head coach Gary Blevins and average 26.4 points per game. Leading the offensive side, QB Noah Tumblin has thrown 13 TD passes and averages 195 yards per game. Not to mention RB Elijah Thomas has a total of 235 rushing yards with 72 carries and WR Artyom Harr has 29 receptions with a total of 552 yards. With a triple threat of QB, RB, and WR, you will want to keep on the lookout for this offensive trio.

Looking at this statistic and the past scores of both teams, the Dons and the Marauders have the ability to score and have tough defensive lines. This should show an interesting matchup for Fridays game.

Kickoff is set for 7pm.  Make sure to tune in to the Prep Pigskin Report this Friday at 10:30pm on KUSI for recaps and highlights of this game and more throughout the county, and be sure to follow @RedJacketArmy on Instagram and Twitter.
