Cathedral Catholic Dons 59, Point Loma Pointers 7
The fog was rolling in at Point Loma high school right around kickoff at 6:30 p.m. This matchup between the Cathedral Catholic Dons and Point Loma Pointers is the first game the Dons have played in three consecutive weeks.
We were able to speak with Cathedral Catholics head coach Sean Doyle.
“We had a great week of practice, probably one of the best weeks ever so maybe that time off really got our players focused because they were so excited to actually be able to play a game,” Doyle said.
That is exactly what the Dons did. They showed up, executed early and had a running clock by the second half on the game leading the Pointers 45-0.
The Dons got on the board early in the first quarter with a five-yard touchdown run by Nick Otineru.
Minutes later, McCormick sacked and stripped the ball and Otineru recovered. The very next play, Cathedral was running. Shawn Poma scored for the Dons, which took the lead on Point Loma, 20-0.
With two minutes left in the first quarter, quarterback DJ Ralph found Zion Sorani deep in the middle for a 71-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion to make the lead 28-0.
It was a quiet night for the Pointers. The Dons were on fire defensively and offensively making the final score 59-7.
Next week, the Dons will have an away game against the Carlsbad Lancers at 7 p.m.
See you next week on the Prep Pigskin Report.
