Central 24, Coronado 21

The reason why the playoffs are so intense is because every senior knows this is the final go around. Players come together as a team to keep their season alive and reach their goal of winning a championship. This was exactly the type of game Central had against Coronado. The Islanders of Coronado traveled over 100 miles to face off against a Spartans team fresh off a round 1 bye.

Central Spartans got off to a quick start with an onslaught of running plays. Central was able to get on the board quick after a 58 yard run by Adrian Ramirez set up a 3 yard score from Julio Rodriguez. Coronado quarterback Jeer Bull answered the Spartans score with a touchdown run himself. After a missed two point conversion, Central capitalized and took a quick lead 14-6 in the 2nd quarter. The following kickoff, Chris Has answered with a 90 yard touchdown return. Coronado was able to convert this two point conversion and tie things up at 14. The next Central drive, Coronado’s Christian Water house picks the Spartans off which leads the Coronado offense to drive down the field. Central’s Leo Ramirez however, picks the Islanders off and the game stays knotted at 14 during the half.

Late in the 3rd quarter, Chris Has once again puts it in the end zone with a 48 yard touchdown run putting the Islanders up by seven. Shortly after, Central’s Julio Rodriguez ties the game with another short yard touchdown run. Picking the game up in the 4th quarter, the turning point of the game came when the Islanders faced a 4th down situation where they ran a fake punt and got stopped on their own 20 yard line where the Spartans took over. That led to a Central field goal for the go ahead score that would hold 24-21. The Central Spartans will advance to the semi-finals and take on the Mater Deli Catholic.
