Chargers and Raiders hire ex-49er president Policy to boost stadium effort

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Fresh off the unexpected announcement Monday of the Citizens’ Stadium Advisory Group’s financing plan for a new multi-use stadium in San Diego, the Chargers and Raiders made a surprise announcement of their own, hiring former San Francisco 49ers president Carmen Policy to spearhead their own stadium effort.

The 71-year-old Policy, who has been out of the NFL since 2004, was expected to speak Tuesday at the owners’ meetings in San Francisco regarding a possible joint stadium in Carson shared by the Chargers and Raiders.  The stadium project is expected to cost around $1.7 billion.

Policy, a member of the 49ers’ front office for 25 years, helped lead the team to four of their five Super Bowl championships.
