Chargers blackout lifted
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – The Chargers announced Friday they've sold enough
tickets for Sunday's game against the Raiders to appear on television in
Southern California.
On Thursday, they were 1,300 tickets short, but the National Football
League gave the Chargers an extra 24 hours to try to avoid the league's
blackout rule. The NFL requires all but the most expensive seats at Qualcomm
Stadium to be sold 72 hours before kickoff or the game won't be aired on local
television.
It was the second straight home game for the Chargers in which they
barely avoided a blackout. The team barely sold enough tickets for its 37-14
victory over the New York Giants to be shown locally.
Last month, the Chargers' 17-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals was the
first NFL game this season not to appear on television screens in the home
team's area.
The league's second blackout will be Sunday when the Buffalo Bills host
the Miami Dolphins.
The Chargers also announced they are around 5,000 seats short of a
sellout for the Nov. 29 regular season finale against the Chiefs. That game, if
all goes perfectly for the Bolts, could have playoff implications.
In order to make the NFL post-season, the Chargers have to win their
last two games while the Dolphins and Baltimore Ravens both need to lose twice.
