Charges filed in case of dog thrown over fence

SAN DIEGO – Gary Sartor of Ramona faces up to six months in county jail or a fine of up to $1,000 for each violation.

Video surveillance cameras at a property in the 1100 block of D Street in Ramona captured an unidentified man tossing a young pit bull over a six-foot-high gate to a commercial building August 28 and walking away. The dog was found the following day by the business owner and turned over to County Animal Services in Carlsbad.

Animal Services asked for help in identifying the suspect in the video and one tip called in to the department on September 28 led to the suspect.

The dog, a black and white mixed breed, was examined by veterinary staff after the incident and no injuries were found. The 6-month-old puppy, named “Dolly” by department staff, was put up for adoption September 23 and she went home with a new owner that day.
