Chinese Navy ships to visit San Diego Naval Base
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – Three ships from China’s navy will visit Naval Base San Diego on Sunday and be welcomed by the base’s commanding officer, Capt. Curt Jones, the U.S. Navy announced Thursday.
The destroyer Haikou, the frigate Yueyang and the supply ship Qiandaohu will be met Sunday in a 3:15 p.m. ceremony that will feature Chinese cultural performances and remarks from Chinese Rear Adm. Shen Jinlong and Jones, Petty Officer Justin Webb said.
The Chinese ships recently participated in the world’s largest international maritime exercise, Rim of the Pacific.
“The U.S. Navy encourages international port visits in order to strengthen our relationships and enhance stability and peace throughout the Asia-Pacific region,” Webb said. “The ability of maritime forces to work together benefits the security interests of all Pacific nations.”
