CHP arrests 68 suspected DUI drivers
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – California Highway Patrol officers in San Diego County
arrested 68 suspected drunken drivers over the Fourth of July holiday period
between Wednesday evening and 6 a.m. Saturday.
Last year, CHP officers arrested 37 drunken driving suspects on freeways
and on roads in unincorporated areas over the holiday reporting period. The
CHP said the this year's reporting period will be longer because it will
include the weekend.
Law enforcement officers throughout San Diego County said one person was
killed in a vehicle crash in this year's reporting period. No fatalities were
reported in 2012.
Authorities throughout the state reported 21 fatalities this year,
compared to nine last year, according to the CHP.
Statewide, 981 suspected drunken drivers were arrested on freeways and
on roads in unincorporated areas since 6:01 p.m. Wednesday, according to the
CHP.
