Christmas Day gas prices lowest since 2008 Christmas

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County dropped 1.3 cents Thursday to $2.68, the lowest amount for Christmas Day since 2008.

The average price had set records for the highest amounts for a Christmas Day each of the previous four years, including $3.64 last year, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price has decreased 83 of the past 84 days, dropping $1.02, including 1.7 cents on Wednesday, to its lowest amount since May 27, 2009.

The average price is 12.1 cents less than one week ago, 40.6 cents lower than one month ago and 95.9 cents below what it was one year ago.

“Local prices are falling very quickly, and although wholesale prices jumped up this week from five-year low points, there continues to be room for further declines at the pump,” said Jeffrey Spring, the corporate communications manager of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
