Chula Vista homes without power after drunk driver takes out power pole

CHULA VISTA (KUSI) – Many Chula Vista homes and businesses were without power Tuesday morning after a suspected drunk driver crashed his car into a power pole.

The crash occurred just around 4 a.m. at the intersection of Oleander Avenue and Montcalm Street, and the driver was taken into custody shortly thereafter.

Over 450 SDG&E customers were reported to be without electricity in the Rancho del Rey, Eastlake and Otay Reservoir areas. However, the utility provider estimated that service would be restored to the affected areas by 4 p.m.
