Chula Vista murder suspect in custody

CHULA VISTA (CNS) – A 26-year-old man was in custody Monday on suspicion
of shooting a 23-year-old man to death at a home in Chula Vista over the
weekend, police said.

Dwayne Omar Ramsay was arrested on suspicion of murder and use of a
controlled substance Sunday morning, a few blocks from the home in the 1500
block of San Pedro Court, according to Chula Vista police and jail records.

Shortly before 6:45 a.m., police were responding to a report of possible
hot prowler in the neighborhood when they received a call of shots fired.

When officers arrived, a man directed them toward the home where the
shooting occurred and told officers that the victim was on the second floor of
the residence. Officers found the victim being cared for by his girlfriend,
Chula Vista police Lt. Daniel Hardman said.

Paramedics arrived and tried to resuscitate him but the victim died at
the scene, Hardman said.

Police said the call about a possible hot prowler was likely tied to
Ramsay fleeing the scene.

Ramsay and his father rent the home and Ramsay and the victim had been
friends for five to seven years, according to U-T San Diego. The motive for the
slaying was under investigation.
