CHULA VISTA: Pedestrian struck and killed trying to cross freeway

(CNS) – A 30-year-old San Diego woman was struck and killed
by a car early Sunday when she ran from the road shoulder into traffic lanes on
northbound Interstate 805.

The incident was at 2:20 a.m. on Interstate 805 near the Orange Avenue
overcrossing, a CHP dispatcher said.

“Witnesses said a female pedestrian standing on the right shoulder next
to a vehicle suddenly ran into the traffic lanes of northbound Interstate
805,” the dispatcher said. “She was directly in the path of a maroon 2009
Toyota Camry, which was unable to stop in time and collided with her.”

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, the dispatcher said.

They Toyota driver was uninjured.

The victim was identified by the Medical Examiner as a Hispanic female.
She had been a passenger in a northbound vehicle on Interstate 805 when she
began to feel ill, the driver pulled onto the freeway shoulder and she exited
the vehicle, the Medical Examiner said.

An autopsy was tentatively scheduled for Monday.
