Chula Vista Police Department says goodbye to K-9 Griffen

CHULA VISTA (KUSI) — The Chula Vista Police Department Monday announced the passing of their Chula Vista Police Dog, K-9 Griffen.

According to their release, Griffen suffered from a medical condition that took his life over the weekend.

“Griffen … passed away peacefully Saturday, March 24 in the presence of his handler, his handler’s family, and other members of the K-9 Program. Griffen will be remembered as a valued member of the Chula Vista Police Department and a loyal and loving partner. It is hard to overstate the bond that a K-9 and his handler have when working long hours in dangerous situations. CVPD’s law enforcement family extends deepest sympathies to his partner officer.”

Griffen was a 7-year-old Belgian Malinois, who worked with the patrol division of the Chula Vista Police Department.

“Griffen not only worked to protect his handler, search for dangerous suspects, and deter criminal behavior, but was well known throughout the city as a frequent guest at community events and public demonstrations.

On behalf of all the women and men at the Chula Vista Police Department, Thank You Griffen for your service, you will be missed.”
