Chula Vista Police arrest suspect in connection to random stabbings

CHULA VISTA (KUSI) – 9:50 p.m. – Tuesday evening at approximately 6 p.m. Chula Vista Police arrested 45-year-old Gerardo Bejar for several random stabbings.

Bejar was charged with three counts of 245 PC Assault with a deadly weapon and will be booked into County Jail.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on Bejar in the 500 block of Orange Avenue after he was identified as a potential suspect.

He was arrested without incident.

2:38 p.m. – Chula Vista Police were looking for a suspect connected to three random stabbings.

The latest stabbing occurred Tuesday at noon, in the 300 block of K Street. The suspect was driving down the street and suddenly stopped his vehicle in the middle of the street as he noticed the victim walking alone along the curb in the other direction. The suspect stopped his car in the middle of the street, jumped out of the car, ran up to the victim and grabbed the victim from behind. He then stabbed him once in the upper back.

The suspect then ran to his still-running car and drove off. The suspect did make some random comments to the victim as he ran away, but the victim had never seen the suspect before.

Suspect Description: White male adult, 30-40 years, 6’-0”, thin, a tattoo on the neck and arm, wearing a gray or black baseball cap and a black t-shirt.

Vehicle:  Silver or Gray newer Ford Mustang with chrome rims (see photo/video).

The vehicle description and crime method matched two other recent incidents in Chula Vista. One occurred on November 17 at about 4:00 p.m. in the 1600 block of Industrial.

A woman in a wheelchair was stabbed once in the back. She flagged down witnesses and told them someone in a Mustang approached her and stabbed her for no reason.

Then on November 23, at about 7:30 a.m. a man standing alone at the rear of the Target Store 1240 Broadway was stabbed once in the back. That victim said that a male in a Mustang stopped as he was driving by. He got out of his car and approached the victim and asked him a few questions. The victim was immediately nervous and began to turn to run away. At that moment the suspect stabbed him once in the back.  The suspect fled in the waiting Mustang.

Although the suspect descriptions varied, all described the stabber as a lone male stranger in a Mustang. Additionally two of the three victims said the suspect had a tattoo on his neck.

None of the victims knew their attacker. None of the victim’s suffered life-threatening injuries. Police are concerned about the random nature of the incidents and Crimes of Violence Detectives are asking anyone with information to please call police immediately.
