City of Del Mar names new community services director/lifeguard chief

DEL MAR (KUSI) — The City of Del Mar has announced that Jon Edelbrock will be the new Director of Community Services/Lifeguard Chief for the City of Del Mar.

Jon has served the City of Del Mar and the Community Services Department for over twenty-five years. Since being hired as a Seasonal Lifeguard in 1992, Jon quickly progressed through the lifeguard ranks ascending to his recent position of Lifeguard Lieutenant in 2010.

In this role, Jon has been responsible for the budget, private use of public space, hiring, and training of lifeguard staff.

He also brings a breadth of knowledge and experience across the Parking and Facilities divisions of the Department after serving in multiple capacities including operational management of both divisions over the past 17 years.

“His dedication and long-term commitment to the Del Mar community, his co-workers, lifeguarding profession, as well as his longevity in public service are just some of the many reasons why Jon Edelbrock was selected to lead the Community Services Department,” said City Manager Scott Huth. “I have no doubt that Jon will do a great job leading the department and continuing to provide a high level of service to the community and the many visitors that enjoy our beautiful beach each year.

A longtime resident of coastal North County, Jon lives locally with his wife and two children. He enjoys time with his family, traveling, surfing, and recently received his Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
