Week 4 City Game of the Week Preview: Mira Mesa Marauders 21, Scripps Ranch Falcons 0
The 23rd Edition of the I-15 Battle this year was a close contest compared to last year’s rivalry game. The Jersey Mike’s City Game of the Week from both schools had a mass amount of people in support. The visiting Marauders earned the privilege of taking home the nice piece of hardware once again, 21-0.
In the first quarter, neither team found the red zone.
Defenses made plays for the Falcons and the Marauders with key forced punts after long drives or three-and-outs. A turnover on downs forced by the Marauders and a bad snap turn over on down in favor of the Falcons.
The Falcon offense took advantage of great gains from screens to get them going down the field. They ran the ball with a purpose and followed their blocks. Dillion Gebase made some nice throws to his targets Mikey McGibney and Rashad Griffin Jr.
For Mira Mesa, the Jersey Mike’s City Player of the Game was Albert Lemon.
“I have the best quarterback in the county,” said Lemon, talking about his teammate Noah Tumblin. “He goes out there and does what he does. He’s amazing.”
Lemon made a handful of terrific catches down the sideline against man coverage.
The touchdown that the refs concluded was a catch and not a interception had everybody thinking how close it really was in the second quarter.
Grant Doran scored after being set up with great field position.
The Mira Mesa Marauders improved 4-0 on the season. They play again Sept. 21 against Steele Canyon.
The Scripps Ranch Falcons are now 3-1. The Falcons play La Jolla Sept. 14.
Week Four is upon us at Scripps Ranch High School as the Falcons host the Marauders from Mira Mesa High School.
The Jersey Mike’s Game of the Week is a rivalry game, but a non-league matchup.
The head coach for the visiting Marauders is Chris Thompson and the head coach for the Falcons is Marlon Gardinera.
Both squads come into the sandwich battle 3-0.
Last year, Mira Mesa beat Scripps Ranch, 50-20. The Marauders were led by Malachi Vanta who had three sacks in the first half. This year is a band new opportunity for both teams. For some, it could be their last rivalry matchup.
For Mira Mesa, the offense wants to keep up the tempo as Noah Tumblin and Josh Poston look to continue to move the chains anyway they can.
The Marauders have tools on and behind their offensive line. Look for Elijah Lynch, Javelle Brown, and Elijah Thomas to contribute on offense.
Albert Lemon comes into week four with three touchdowns and Josh Poston comes in with two. Malachi Vanta looks to cause a ruckus in the middle.
The Scripps Ranch Falcons are led at the quarterback position by Dillion Gebase, who has six touchdowns on the season thus far.
Nicholas Gardinera comes into week four with 385 yards and three touchdowns. Rashad Griffin Jr. on the season has three touchdowns, as well.
On defense, Brandon Stadtherr leads the team with 24 total tackles. Carter Foss has three sacks on the season.
