City Heights car chase ends in crash, arrest

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A motorist being pursued by police Wednesday threw a firearm out his car window before crashing the vehicle and suffering a head injury, a San Diego police lieutenant said.

Officers noticed the driver go through a stop sign shortly after 10:30 a.m. in the 3000 block of Euclid Avenue in City Heights, and he failed to pull over as directed, Lt. Andra Brown said.

The officers saw him toss a black bag — which turned out to contain a sawed-off shotgun — out the car window before the crash in the 5300 block of Auburn Drive, Brown said.

She said the unidentified suspect jumped a fence but was apprehended about five minutes later, and paramedics treated him for a head injury.
