City of El Cajon looking to fill a vacant seat on the City Council

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The city of El Cajon announced today that applications are being accepted to fill a vacant at-large seat on the City Council. The selected applicant will hold the seat on the five-member governing body until November 2020.

The seat was formerly held by Ben Kalasho, who resigned last month. Kalasho routinely butted heads with the rest of the council, saying in his resignation letter that he felt he was “constantly battling my colleagues on agenda items and the general direction that my colleagues wanted for the city.”

Kalasho also dealt with multiple legal issues during his time on the council.

Residents interested in filling the seat can apply on the city’s website,, or by calling the city clerk’s office at (619) 441-1763. Applicants must submit their applications by April 26 at 4:30 p.m.

The council will then consider applications and interview candidates at its May 14 meeting.
