City of San Diego hiring pool employees for the summer

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The City of San Diego is looking to fill 46 open pool lifeguard and pool manager positions at 13 facilities for the summer.

People who are interested need to attend an initial tryout to assess basic swimming proficiency and qualify to enroll in the City’s lifeguard training course.

Tryouts will be held Tuesday, March 19 and Thursday, March 21, 2019 at the Tierrasanta Pool from 5 – 7 p.m. and Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Vista Terrace Pool in San Ysidro from 9 – 10 a.m.

Swimmers who pass the tryout must attend a week-long mandatory lifeguard training course that teaches safety, first aid and lifesaving procedures.

Participants who graduate the course will receive American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and Title 22 First Aid certifications and qualify to work as a lifeguard at City pools. The cost of the lifeguard training course is $231, and financing and scholarship options are available.

According to the City those who wish to participate in pool lifeguard tryouts must create an account at www.sdrecconnect.com prior to attending. Positions are open to all age groups, but minors will need to provide a liability waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian to participate.
