City renews threat to remove fire pits
For the third time in as many years, the City is considering removing the nearly 200 fire pits scattered around San Diego's beaches. The threat to the fire pits came last week when Mayor Jerry Sanders proposed removing them to help fill a $56 million hole in the City's budget.
City Councilman Kevin Faulconer is among those looking for solutions to save the fire pits. He is proposing a plan for private funding so the City doesn't have to pay for upkeep.
