City to step up sidewalk vending ordinance enforcement

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The San Diego Police Department is keeping a close eye on vendors operating in the Gaslamp District.

Starting Dec. 2, officers with the department’s Central Division will be citing violators of the sidewalk vending ordinance.

The ordinance, passed by the City Council in May, allows for roaming and stationary sidewalk vendors to use public property but specifically bans them from vending on sidewalks.

KUSI’s Hunter Sowards was joined by Michael Trimble, executive director of the Gaslamp Quarter Association, to talk about what affect enforcement will have on vending.
