Clairemont 10, Coronado 7
Clairemont was victorious on homecoming night with a 10-7 win over Coronado.
It was quite a night. The band played the “Games of Thrones” theme song, while the theater department performed its own gory rendition of Thriller.
The first quarter flew by, with the Islanders and Chieftains both attempting to run the ball.
In the second quarter, Clairemont running back Alex Beaubien completed a 21-yard run which helped him set-up his own 8-yard touchdown run. Chieftains with the lead 7-0.
Islanders got some momentum in the quarter when Alejandro Carrera intercepted Clairemont quarterback RJ McCoy. A couple big passes from from Jaeger Bull to Christopher Haas and Matt Gillingham put the Islanders in Chieftain territory. They were unable to score, and the score stayed 7-0 going into halftime.
In the third quarter, Clairemont’s Dylan Irwin had a big 61-yard run to move the Chieftains into Islander territory. That set up a field goal from kicker Kalber Max. Chieftains extend the lead 10-0.
The Islanders made it close in the fourth quarter. Haas broke out to the right with an impressive 42-yard touchdown run. Islanders down only 10-7.
The seal of victory came from Beaubien once again. The Islanders were driving down field near the end of the fourth to tie or win the game when Beaubien leaped into the air and intercepted Jaeger Bull.
Next week, Chieftains (3-5) will host Christian, while Coronado (3-5) will celebrate homecoming.
