Classes canceled at La Jolla Country Day due to threat

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – Classes were canceled Wednesday at La Jolla Country Day School due to a bomb threat.

The threat against the University City preschool-through-12th-grade campus was made by telephone by “a known individual” who said an explosive device would be placed at a specific location on campus on a specific date, according to an FBI statement released late Tuesday.

The alleged perpetrator, whose name was withheld, is neither a student nor an employee of the school, FBI spokesman Darrell Foxworth said.

No arrests in the case have been announced.

School officials decided to cancel classes today out of “an abundance of caution,” according to Foxworth.

A search of the Genesee Avenue campus with service dogs turned up nothing threatening, school head Judy Fox stated in a message to students and their parents.

“School will be open tomorrow, and all normal activities will resume,” she said. “We are confident that the school is safe.”

Added security measures will be in place Thursday as a precaution, according to Fox.
