Coast Guard rescues three off Carlsbad coast

San Diego (KUSI) – Three men on a recreational boat had to be rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard Thursday after their boat began taking on water about a mile of the coast of Carlsbad.

The Coast Guard got the mayday call at about 2 p.m., USCG Petty Officer Rob Simpson said, and immediately sent the cutter Edisto to the scene. It took just a few minutes for the crew to arrive and launch an inflatable rescue craft to retrieve the passengers of the motorboat.

Lifeguards were then able to stabilize the waterlogged boat and tow it into the Oceanside Harbor, Simpson said.
