Coast Guard searches for 76-year-old San Diego sailor

SAN DIEGO (AP) – The U.S. Coast Guard says crews are searching for a 76-year-old sailor who failed to return to San Diego after a trip out to the Pacific.

The Coast Guard said in a statement Monday that boats and helicopters are searching waters between San Clemente Island and San Diego for Richard Byhre and his 28-foot sailing vessel known as Princess.

Byhre’s wife said she last saw him when he departed on the boat on Feb. 10. She reported him missing on Saturday, 11 days after he left, saying he normally only made short trips out to sea.

Over the weekend Coast Guard searched waters off Rosarito and Ensenada, Mexico.
