Coastchella Concert Fundraiser for Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas

He spent three months completely paralyzed in the ICU (intensive care unit), and two additional months in the inpatient rehabilitation unit at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas battling a rare neurological disease, Guillain-Barre’ Syndrome. Today, after returning to full health, Michael Tedesco is on a mission to help pay his good fortune forward.

Logan Byrnes sat down with Michael Tedesco to talk about the Coastchella benefit concert.

Tedesco has volunteered countless hours sitting bedside with other hospitalized patients, sharing tips and encouragement. Now, he’s on the planning committee for an upcoming concert fundraiser to support a new ICU at Scripps Encinitas. The event is called “Coastchella” and it will take place at the Belly Up Tavern Oct. 11, featuring American Idol winner Phillip Phillips.

Proceeds from the event will help fund the build-out and enhancement of the intensive care unit in the planned acute care building at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas with construction expected to begin in 2021. North County’s population growth has created a need to expand patient care capabilities at the hospital.

Coastchella will begin at the iconic music venue, 143 South Cedros Ave., with a 5 p.m. VIP reception. It will be followed by the main event from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., including a cocktail reception, live auction and live performance by Phillips, who won the 11th season of “American Idol.” Phillips’ singles “Home” and “Gone, Gone, Gone” both reached the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts.
Tickets to attend the event are $250 per person or $400 per person for VIP tickets. To register visit www.scripps.org/coastchella. For more information about the event, as well as sponsorship opportunities, please contact (760) 633-6523 or specialevents@scrippshealth.org.
