Coles Fine Flooring donates the gift of a lifetime to teachers and students

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — San Diego students are feeling great about reading in class after generous donations from Coles Fine Flooring.

Third graders are loving reading in Manuel Aceves’ classroom at Bancroft Elementary. "It feels like home," one student said about why she loved sitting on the rug for reading.

The area rug is a high-end Tommy Bahama rug, made possible by the longtime family owned business. Coles Fine Flooring held a teacher area rug giveaway event in August to show their appreciation for teachers. The turnout was huge with 500 teachers walking away with brand new rugs for the students, some of which were worth more than $1000.

"We were very proud and honored to be able to help them out and give them a rug for the kids to sit on and read," Steve Coles said of the donations being made. "Listening to each teacher’s story was just incredible."

Lani Cerasaro, a second grade teacher at Highlands Elementary has reached into her own pocket to spruce up her classroom over the past 20 years of her career. She didn’t have to this time around, and her students love the new rug.

"I’m extremely grateful to the Coles family for bringing this into our classroom. It’s a gift of a lifetime," Cerasaro said.

"They are our unsung heroes and we can’t take them for granted. They’re working on our next generation of adults," Coles said of why it’s so important to give back to teachers.

Coles Fine Flooring plans on holding another giveaway for teachers sometime next year, giving more back to those tasked with leading the youth while encouraging the children to enjoy reading when it’s time to sprawl out on the rug.
