Community leaders concerned about proposed housing goals

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – San Diego County has a serious housing shortage, but some say the expectations to build more housing are not being shared equally.

The state of California is calling upon cities to produce more housing. However, communities like National City, Chula Vista and Imperial Beach are being told to add more housing than communities to the North or East..

In the next decade, cities around the county will need to build at least 171,000 new housing units to keep up with population growth and demand. That’s the number coming from SANDAG, the regional planning agency.

Community leaders are concerned that this responsibility is not being shared equally.
