Construction worker arrested on suspicion of killing girlfriend three years ago

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A construction worker was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of killing his on-again, off-again girlfriend more than three years ago and dumping her body alongside a rural East County road, authorities reported Monday.

Detectives from the San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested David Charles Williams Jr., 44, without incident Saturday, according to sheriff’s officials.

Williams, a roofer by trade, is suspected of strangling 35-year-old Lakeside resident Christine Crosby, who disappeared in July 2011. Late that month, her body was found in a shallow grave just east of Mile Marker 29 on Old Highway 80 in Boulevard, Lt. John Maryon said.

Officials have disclosed no suspected motive for the slaying, though Maryon said the victim and suspect had been known to break up and then reunite. Investigators believe they were living together at the time of Crosby’s death, or had been in the recent past.

Williams was being held in San Diego Central Jail on $5 million bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
