Construction worker killed after structural collapse in Oceanside

OCEANSIDE (KUSI) – A construction worker was killed Tuesday after a structure collapsed near El Camino High School.

According to fire department officials, the man was working in the 1400 block of Avenida del Oro in Oceanside on a drainage channel at the partially built FedEx. A retaining wall fell on him for unknown reasons around 9 a.m.

Division Chief Felipe Rodriguez said by the time the crane operator was able to remove the roughly 3-by 12- foot slab of concrete from the trapped worker, he had died.

Cal/OSHA will investigate the accident, as is standard for industrial accidents in the state.
