Week 8: Coronado Islanders 32, Crawford Colts 0

Friday night, the Coronado Islanders traveled to Crawford High school where they took on the Colts in a league battle. With a 5-1 season record, the Islanders took home the win, defeating the Colts, 32-0.

Starting quarterback for the Islanders Colter Maldonado came out on fire. In the first quarter, Maldonado put the team on the board scoring the first two touchdowns of the night.

In the second quarter, the Islanders kept the momentum going. Max Baker came out with the 35-yard touchdown run bringing the score to 19-0.

Later in the second quarter, Crawford quarterback Kevin Luong scrambled to make a play but came up short as his pass was picked off by none other than Maldonado.

This set up the Islander offense in great field position for Maldonado’s shovel pass play to Nicholas Dunn for the 14-yard touchdown bringing the score to 25-0.

The Islanders weren’t finished yet, as early in the third quarter, Maldonado threw yet another touchdown pass. The 37-yard touchdown pass to James Witthoft brought the final score of this matchup to 32-0.

The Coronado defense had a total of four interceptions and recovered two fumbles.

As for the Colts, they put up a fight and will look to come back next week when they travel to Serra high school next week to take on the Conquistadors in an away league matchup.

PREVIEW

We have hit the halfway mark for the high school football season and this Friday, Oct. 5, the Coronado Islanders are headed to Crawford to take on the Colts in a league battle.

The Islanders have a 5-1 record for this season and will look to bring home another victory this week. Under coach Kurt Hines, the Islanders have had a great start to this season.

Last week, the Islanders took on Clairemont in a league battle where the Islanders took the win, 45-6.

Junior Colter Maldonado will be the starting quarterback for the Islanders offense. Maldonado has definitely made a statement with passing yards and hopes to bring that to Friday’s game.

The Crawford Colts are on the home side of this matchup and have an overall season record of 3-3.

Last week, the Colts took on Scripps Ranch at home in a non-league matchup and unfortunately fell short of the win.

Sophomore quarterback Kevin Luong will lead Crawford’s offense and will look to make a come back in this week’s league game.

Last time these two teams saw each other, the Islanders defeated The Colts, 34-7. Will Crawford pull off the upset or will the Islanders bring home another victory?
