Coronado working to remove boats from shoreline
CORONADO (KUSI) – Two sailboats, including one getting battered against a rock jetty by high winds and surf, washed ashore on the City’s beach early Monday morning.
A third sailboat was offshore but has been secured.
The City of Coronado was working to ascertain if there were any hazardous materials on board, such as fuel, solvents or batteries, to facilitate removal of anything that may pose a risk to the environment.
The U.S. Coast Guard was also on hand. The City was attempting to contact the owners of the vessels to take responsibility for their sailboats.
One owner was at the beach earlier Monday and said a vessel removal company was set to remove his sailboat Tuesday morning. The City has been unable to contact the owner of the other vessel.
The sailboats appeared to have washed ashore during the night from the Zuniga Jetty free anchorage.
