County Democratic Party endorses Todd Gloria as next mayor of San Diego

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The San Diego County Democratic Party’s Central Committee has chosen to endorse Todd Gloria as the next mayor of San Diego.

The Democratic Party’s Central Committee is made up of elected members from each of the County’s assembly districts, local leaders and elected officials. They spent hours debating and eventually voted to endorse Gloria over the other two Democratic candidates, Councilwoman Barbara Bry and Community Activist Tasha Williamson.

Gloria has earned endorsements from officials like Gov. Gavin Newsom, Rep. Susan Davis and City Attorney Mara Elliot. He has raised $646,000 in campaign funds.

This doesn’t mean the other candidates don’t have a chance, it just means the Democratic Party is backing Gloria.

There are no Republicans running for mayor right now, but the Republican Party of San Diego County Chair says they are hoping to get Republican Councilman Scott Sherman to enter the race.

The election is more than a year away, and the Primary still hasn’t been held.
