County District Attorney releases officer-involved shootings report

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The District Attorney’s office has released a comprehensive report on officer shootings in San Diego County history.

The new analysis takes a detailed look at confrontations with police that ended with people being shot or killed over the last 25 years.

The data reveals trends that follow racial lines, and shows that many shootings involve drugs or mental health.

According to the study, 451 people were involved in violent confrontations with police in San Diego County between 1993 and 2017, which makes for an average of about 18 per year.
