Man and woman arrested for alleged kidnapping and sexual assault
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A man and a woman have been arrested for allegedly kicking and punching a 21-year-old woman, then dragging by her hair from a car and leaving her naked on a freeway near Lemon Grove.
Catherine R. McCoy, 47, and Christopher R. Carrera, 32, were arrested Friday, police said. Carrera was arrested without incident in Chula Vista and McCoy was arrested as she was inside a vehicle that police stopped near San Diego State University.
The 21-year-old woman was attacked at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday as she walked to a residence near City Heights, according to San Diego police Lt. Rudy Tai. Two suspects punched and kicked the victim and forced her into a white sport utility vehicle.
As the man, now identified as Carrera suspect drove, the female suspect allegedly beat, sexually assaulted and threatened to kill the victim, Tai said.
The driver stopped the vehicle near the interchange of state routes 125 and 54 in Spring Valley, Tai said. There, Carrera reportedly dragged her over an embankment, punched her in the face and kicked her.
The suspects left the victim and drove off in the SUV, Tai said.
Around 8:30 p.m., a passing motorist saw the woman as she emerged, naked, from the bushes, and called for help, Tai said. The woman was incoherent and had been beaten severely, requiring medical attention for her injuries.
The victim later told investigators she knew her attackers, Tai said.
The suspects were booked into County Jail and Las Colinas Jail on multiple charges, Tai said. Both were held without bail pending arraignment, now scheduled for Wednesday.
