Torrey Pines Falcons 35, San Marcos Knights 28

The Torrey Pines Falcons (9-0) were able to stay undefeated as they defeated the San Marcos Knights (8-1) by a final score of 35-28. The Falcons live to see another week as they will take on the Cathedral Catholic Dons next Saturday night at Southwestern College for the Open Division Championship.

San Marcos came out hungry looking to spoil the Falcons home game but Torrey Pines proved to be no match. Quarterback Miles Hastings threw for 242 yards and 3 touchdowns while also completing 18 passes out of 28 attempts. Running back Zach Frost ran for 119 yards while kicker Caleb Mancini was perfect going 2 for 2 with his longest field goal at 42 yards. Unfortunately, for the Knights their season comes to an end with tonight’s loss and will have to wait until next year at another opportunity at the championship.

As for the Torrey Pines Falcons they remain undefeated and have their eyes on the prize as they will battle it out for the championship. Falcons quarterback Jason Heine threw for 126 yards and rushed for 71 yards while tallying 2 rushing touchdowns. Game MVP Mac Bingham ran for 207 yards with 1 touchdown and also played lights out defense as he was able to force a fumble which was ran back by Sebastian Carpenter for a touchdown. The Falcons will look to remain perfect and finish the season in grand fashion as they can smell the championship in the air.

Be sure to catch the championship game next Saturday at 7pm at Southwestern College to find out who will be named the open division champion.

PREVIEW: Along with the cool crisp air reminding us that winter is coming, we can also sense that it is time for playoff high school football in San Diego County. For this week’s Cox Game of the Week match up we have the (8-1) San Marcos Knights taking on the (9-0) Torrey Pines Falcons.

The Knights of San Marcos are headed into playoffs after a strong regular season finish by going 8-1 while also going 4-1 in league play. Head coach Jason Texler has nothing but faith in his senior quarterback as Miles Hastings looks to lead his team to victory. Hastings has accumulated a total of 1,665 yards, 16 passing touchdowns and has only thrown for 4 interceptions out of 180 attempts. Of course, the Knights would not have made it this far if it wasn’t for the help of their two explosive senior running backs Zach Frost and Aaron Norita. Both running backs have rushed for 8 touchdowns each while Frost has 591 rushing yards and Norita has 485 rushing yards. Switching gears, senior Quinn Roff looks to continue to dominate of defense as he looks to improve his 13.5 sacks on the season.

On the opposite sidelines the Falcons of Torrey Pines look to remain perfect on the season as they finished 9-0 while going undefeated in league play at 5-0. The Falcons will defend their home turf at all costs under the leadership of head coach Ron Gladnick. Gladnick has many offensive weapons at his disposal starting with senior quarterback Jason Heine. Heine has thrown for 800 total yards, 4 passing touchdowns, 8 rushing touchdowns and has thrown for 8 interceptions in 92 attempts. Perhaps the Falcons greatest threat lies with senior Mac Bingham who has proved to be unstoppable rushing for a total of 1358 yards and tallying a total of 23 touchdowns.
