Crews rescue hiker in San Vicente Reservoir

LAKESIDE (CNS) – Crews in a sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter rescued a hiker who fell ill while hiking up to San Vicente Reservoir Sunday.

A Heartland Fire dispatcher said a distress call came at 11:19 a.m. and that Lakeside Fire Department was sent to 13500 Moreno Ave. in Lakeside.

The dispatcher said the victim was a man in his 60s who was experiencing diabetic problems.

The helicopter flew the ill man to the base of the reservoir trail, where he was then taken by ambulance at 12:34 p.m. to Grossmont Hospital for treatment.
