Cristo Rey San Diego High School combines work study with college prep for low-income students
SOUTHCREST (KUSI)- Cristo Rey San Diego High School is a unique and innovative school that provides a transformative education to students from underserved communities. One of their slogans is, “a school that works.” The meaning behind that is, the students who attend Cristo Rey go to the classroom four days a week and on the fifth day the students will go out into the workforce through the corporate work study program.
KUSI’s Kacey McKinnon spoke with some of the students at Cristo Rey High School and learned more about the unique opportunities they have. One of the students told KUSI that her favorite job has been to work at Rady Children’s Hospital. 150 students currently attend Cristo Rey and they hope to add more come next fall.
