Data expert Justin Hart disputes Dr. Wooten’s claim that 6 out of 10 San Diegans have pre-existing conditions

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – San Diego County Health Officials, led by Dr. Wilma Wooten, recently published new information regarding the dangers of coronavirus to resident of San Diego County.

Dr. Wilma Wooten said 60%, 6 out of 10, San Diegans have pre-existing conditions.

The County of San Diego Communications Office says followed up on this claim saying, “six out of every 10 adult San Diegans are at extra risk for severe illness should they contract the novel coronavirus. That’s because about 57% of San Diego County adults have pre-existing medical conditions such as high blood pressure, heart and lung disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity.”

To date, 95-percent of the coronavirus deaths in San Diego County were people who had an underlying medical conditions.

Data expert Justin Hart joined KUSI’s Jason Austell on Good Morning San Diego to explain why Dr. Wooten’s claim is complete misinformation that is scaring the public.
