La Mesa motel robbed at gunpoint

LA MESA (CNS) – A gun-wielding thief robbed an East County motel this afternoon.

The bandit, who had a goatee and appeared to be in his 30s or early 40s, pulled a pistol on a clerk at the Days Inn in the 7400 block of El Cajon Boulevard in La Mesa and demanded cash about 2:30 p.m., according to police.

After stealing an undetermined amount of money, the robber fled on foot to the west. Officers searched the area with help from a sheriff's helicopter crew but were unable to find him.

The thief was wearing black pants, a gray sweat shirt with some type of emblem on the back, a gray knit cap and gloves, police said.
