Son arrested for murder of father in Rancho Santa Fe home

RANCHO SANTA FE (KUSI) — A man found dead under suspicious circumstances Tuesday at a Rancho Santa Fe home has been identified Wednesday, authorities said.

The victim in what is being investigated as a homicide has been identified as Leighton Dorey III, the the homeowner and resident of the Rancho Sante Fe home. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, neck and torso as well as strangulation. 

Deputies responding to a reported assault in the 17200 block of La Brisa made the discovery shortly before noon Tuesday, according to sheriff’s officials.

Homicide detectives were called in to investigate the fatality, Lt. Mike Muncie said.

The identity of the deceased and details on the circumstances of the death were not immediately available.

During the investigation overnight, homicide detectives identified Mr. Dorey’s adult son, Leighton Dorey IV as the suspect in his death. With the assistance of the San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force, Mr. Dorey IV and his vehicle were tracked to the community of Idyllwild in Riverside County.

Mr. Dorey IV was located early this morning in a heavily forested area near the town and arrested without incident by task force members.
Mr. Dorey IV was transported back to San Diego
