Del Mar woman hospitalized after being struck by Coaster Train

DEL MAR (KUSI) — A woman was hospitalized Friday night after she was struck by a train while walking along the tracks in Del Mar.

The collision happened just before 8 p.m. at 12th street in Del Mar.

According to San Diego County Sheriff’s, a northbound Coaster Train was traveling at approximately 50 miles per hour when the engineer observed the woman walking onto the tracks. The Coaster Train was unable to stop and collided with her. The train’s emergency braking system was applied.

The woman suffered unknown injuries and was transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital.

Since February 2nd 2015 to April 15th 2016 there have been 18 train collisions on the railroad tracks in the San Diego County Sheriff’s jurisdiction.
