Deputies find body matching Escondido murder suspect at crime scene

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – 12/9/2015 – Deputies found what may be the body of homicide suspect Juan Garcia Wednesday evening while assisting family members of the victim Teresa Ortiz, recover personal property from the home.

Deputies conducted a protective search of the home before family members were allowed inside when they found a Hispanic male adult deceased inside the home. The deceased male matched the description of the suspect. 

The Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy and will determine the cause and manner of death along with the decedent’s positive identification.

12/8/2015 – San Diego sheriff’s detectives asked for the public’s help Wednesday to find a man suspected of shooting to death his estranged wife in Escondido and who may be heading to Mexico.

The murder of Teresa Ortiz took place Saturday, according to the department, which named Jose Garcia as the suspect. Garcia allegedly fled on foot and was last seen driving a stolen 2003 Silver Ford Taurus SE that was taken from the Thunderbird Driving Range at 26351 N. Centre City Parkway on Sunday, according to the department.

The stolen car was found Tuesday in unincorporated Escondido, detectives said. Garcia may be carrying a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun and should be considered armed and dangerous, according to authorities, who say he has used numerous aliases, including Juan Paredes, Juan Garcia, Jose Luis Garcia and Jose Luis Moreno. He has also used a number of birth dates, they said.

Garcia has been a longtime resident of Escondido. But he is a Mexican National and may attempt to flee the U.S., according to the department. Garcia is Hispanic, about 5 feet 8, around 170 pounds, with brown eyes and curly black shoulder-length hair.

He was clean shaven when last seen and has a small tattoo on the outside web of his right hand, according to authorities. He was last seen wearing a blue, long sleeve shirt, blue denim shorts, long white socks and white tennis shoes.
