DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen tours border wall construction in Calexico
CALEXICO (KUSI) — She’s the new leader of the most powerful security agency on earth, Homeland Security.
Wednesday, Kirstjen Nielsen headed to the new border wall in Calexico for a look. The only border wall currently under construction in California.
“I just want to start by saying we are one team, we work together,” Nielsen said.
As the new chief of DHS, she’s also the new advocate for the rank and file.
“The system is broken, no doubt. I will take your messages to D.C. and fight for the things you need to do your jobs”.
During her brief visit to California, she was greeted by protestors at the border wall project in Calexico.
That’s the only border project under construction.
This was different, however.
The protestors were all on the Mexico side of the border, not the U.S. side. They chanted “no wall” in Spanish. When the protestors got loud, Nielsen got out. Quickly. Off to the next border state, Arizona.
A place where the Governor actually joined her for the visit, instead of being shunned like here in California.
