Dispute over woman leaves 1 man stabbed in Fallbrook

FALLBROOK (KUSI) – A man was stabbed in the chest in Fallbrook after getting into a dispute with his alleged attacker in a Fallbrook apartment complex Tuesday night, a sheriff’s sergeant said Friday. The victim told investigators while in the hospital that he and Rafael Abarca — who he identified as his attacker — got into a physical dispute in the complex’s parking garage over a woman they both claimed to be dating, Sgt. Dwain Washington said.

The suspect was taken into custody as he was attempting to drive away from the scene, according to Washington. The scene of the crime was an apartment building on Alturas Rd. near Fallbrook St., where police discovered the stabbing victim shortly before 9 p.m.

The victim was taken to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. He was listed in stable condition Tuesday night, according to Washington.

Abarca was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
