District 3 City Council candidates take up parking issue in North Park
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The parking vs. bike lanes debate got heated in North Park Thursday night.
Save 30th Street Parking and the SoNo Neighborhood Alliance co-hosted a community forum with all announced candidates for the March 3rd primary election for the SD City Council District 3 seat.
The event, which was open to the public, gave residents and small business owners an opportunity to learn where District 3 candidates stand on key land use and transportation issues that are having a growing impact on mid-city neighborhoods.
One hot topic: San Diego City Hall’s push to replace parking spaces along North Park’s popular 30th street with bike lanes, which they city says is a step in fighting greenhouse emissions.
However, many residents and small business owners claim this will hurt the community and drive away potential customers.
The candidates at the forum were Toni Duran, Adrian Kwiatkowski, Michelle Nguyen, Chris Olsen and Stephen Whitburn.
