Donald Trump continues to draw headlines

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Donald Trump is leading in the latest national poll among all Republican candidates and leading by double digits.

And it all comes on a day when the name calling got fierce and Trump even gave out the private phone number of one of his rivals.

It's clear the Trump candidacy is making headlines and sucking the air out of the room for all the other GOP candidates.

""This guy Lindsay Graham. A total light weight."

Trump went to South Carolina Tuesday, taking on Senator Lindsay Graham.

"He's becoming a jackass at a time when we need to have a serious debate about the future of the party and the country," Graham said of Trump.

Trump's reaction? He shared a number he said was the senator's personal cell phone.

"He won't fix anything but at least he'll talk to you," Trump said.

The television star's bombastic style could be working. A new Washington Post/ABC poll shows him leading the GOP field by 11 points, but that poll was largely completed before he refused to call Senator John McCain a war hero.

On Tuesday, Trump taunted his competitors.

"When you register zero in the polls.. you have nothing to lose."

Trump's lead will have an early consequence in the campaign. Only the top ten candidates gain entry to the first GOP debate in August. And with sixteen candidates now in the race. It could mean a candidate like swing state Governor John Kasich of Ohio, who entered the race Tuesday could be on the sidelines while Trump gets in.

But most political analysts still believe Trump's run will be short lived.

"It's the trump summer. but when people get close to voting, they'll get serious. because both of our major parties want to win," said Political Analyst, Larry Sabato.

So what will Wednesday bring?

Here is a preview.

On Wednesday, Trump is meeting in New York with his GOP rival, Texas Senator Ted Cruz.

He is the one GOP candidate that has been the least critical of Trump's bombastic style.

There is sure to be another wild headline.
