Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dignity Award Breakfast brings community together
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The 35th Annual Doctor Martin Luther King Junior Human Dignity Award Breakfast was held Friday to honor the remarkable life of the legendary civil rights activist.
For the 35th year the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA bringing together the community to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The event attracted more than 1,700 people for breakfast, a who’s who of San Diego, where partisan politics is put aside.
San Diego’s mayor Kevin Falconer has this to say about the event: “It’s important to come together as a community to not only celebrated like to see if Dr. King but to talk about the work that we still need to do but also celebrate that were best as a city and as a region when we come together. That’s with one San Diego that’s what this human dignity breakfast is all about. And to see that shattered record breaking attendance today I’m not surprised because this really represents the best of who we are as San Diego.”
One focuses of today’s breakfast is San Diego’s youth and teaching them about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Every year the breakfast hands out a Human Dignity Award to a member of the community who exemplifies the work and character of Dr. king. This years recipient long time YMCA board memeber Dee Sanford.
