Driver facing felony charges after head-on collision
DEHESA (KUSI) – Felony charges were expected for a 20-year-old driver after he allegedly caused a head-on collision early Wednesday that sent two people to the hospital.
According to police, Bashman Azatt Abdulahad lost control of his vehicle and veered into oncoming traffic as he traveled on eastbound Dehesa Road near Sycuan Casino just before 4 a.m. As a result, his Altima struck a westbound Honda Civic.
A 22-year-old passenger in the Civic was airlifted to a hospital with severe injuries, while the vehicle’s 43-year-old driver was taken away in an ambulance with non life-threatening injuries.
Abdulahad, according to the CHP, was driving with a suspended license and attempted to run from the scene of the crash, only to be located a short time later. He was taken into custody on suspicion of felony hit and run and driving with a suspended license.
Neither alcohol nor drugs were considered to have been a factor in the crash.
